2020, Big Cam Cummins, Catalyst, Peterbilt -

A BLAST FROM THE PAST - Last week we had a 359 Pete in our shop with a Big Cam Cummins 700+ horsepower engine we built years ago. This engine had our High Lift Camshaft and MVT (mechanical variable timing) system so there is no smoke at idle and the timing retards at high power to increase the life of the pistons. The pistons are a high strength Cummins piston that were ceramic and Teflon coated, which we still do.  It also has our performance turbocharger and oversized gear pump on the fuel pump which measured 1.25 inches vs the...

2020, Catalyst, Cummins N-14 -

Several years ago Kevin Rutherford and I were talking about setting money aside for a maintenance account and the amount per mile was 10 cents for pre-emissions trucks.  Then when EGR, DPF, and DEF appeared on the trucks in 2011 and 2012 the amount went to 15 cents per mile.  Last week our friend Jane Gates, the PhD chemist who developed the Max Mileage fuel borne catalyst, told us about the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI). They say the figure to operate a late model truck with OEM engines for years 2012 to 2020 is 17 cents per...

Below is an email I just received from Leland Johnson, President of Johnson Motor Freight Inc. He’s been running his fleet on Max Mileage Fuel Borne Catalyst. I had a phone conversation with him just two days before and asked how he was able to get the drivers to measure the catalyst each time. This chemical is powerful and you DO NOT want to over treat the fuel, 1 oz. per 25 gallons of fuel, 1 cc per gallon of gasoline.  What Leland did was purchase several glass jars that hold 7 ozs of catalyst, enough for 175 gallons of...

2020, Catalyst, Cooling -

It’s that time of year again, winter is over, and our trucks have suffered from the ingestion of road salt (sodium and magnesium chloride) spray into the radiator and air filters. The road spray that comes off of the tires of the vehicle in front of you is highly corrosive and accumulates on the fins of the radiator and in the air filter.  The tubes take the heat out of the coolant and the fins take the heat away from the tubes.  Without the fins the radiator will not cool the antifreeze.  The radiator shroud enables the fan to draw...

Are you running Max Mileage Fuel Borne Catalyst in your diesel fuel and your Harley Davidson?  If not, you are not doing justice for your engine.  The catalyst will burn 60% or more of the soot and carbon in the combustion chamber and it ignites diesel fuel 33% faster than diesel fuel alone.  Webasto and Espar cab heaters will not have to be cleaned because there will be no soot in the firing chamber. If you work on your truck and must change the exhaust pipes, guess what, you will not get dirty because there is no soot in the...
